Your how-to site for community journalism

About J-Learning

J-Learning offers tips and tools to help news entrepreneurs plan, build, present and promote their local news websites. Its How to Create a News Site module specifically teaches how to use the WordPress content management system to build a news website. Tips & Tools offer how-to advice from around the web.

The site is now archived. It was funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation and was created in conjunction with the Knight Community News Network. While J-Learning focuses on hardware and software, KCNN helps journalists build skills for launching community news sites and populating them with responsible content with learning modules on legal risks, interviewing, securing non-profit status and using social media.

Both sites are initiatives of J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism, a catalyst for news innovations and startups. J-Lab has awarded micro-grants to help launch community news sites (j-newvoices.org) and women media entrepreneur sites (newmediawomen.org).
