Adding Titles and Other Graphics

Titles are often text elements overlaid on black video or actual video. You can use a title to place the title of the clip on the screen or to add names, locations or credits. To create a title:

  1. Choose File > New Title. Premiere opens the Adobe Title Designer window.
  2. Click the Text tool (*) in the Title window and type the text of your title.
  3. Click on the Selection tool (*) to select the text, then adjust color, size, font and other elements in theProperties area of the window. You can also use the left and right Arrow keys to nudge the text into place. Right-clicking on the PC will bring up the context-sensitive menu for custom options. Keep all text within the inner white line of the window to ensure that it displays on all television screens and monitors.
  4. Choose File > Save. This opens the Save Title window.
  5. Give your title a name, then click Save.
  6. Close the Adobe Title Designer window. Your new title is visible in the Project window.
  7. To put a title on your video, drag the title from the project window into the Video 2 track. The title will display on top of whatever video is displayed in the Video 1 track.
  8. Hit the Enter key to render the title and view the results.

You can also place a graphic you import onto the Timeline. After you import the graphic, it will appear in the Project window. Simply drag it into the Timeline at the point you want it to appear. If your image had transparent areas when you created it, any video underneath the graphic will show in those areas.

You can set the duration of title and graphic display by opening Edit > Preferences > Still Image and setting a number of frames for the default duration (remember that there are about 30 frames a second). Alternatively, you can place the title or graphic in the Timeline and simply use the selection tool to drag one end of it to be longer or shorter.
